Los Altos Stage Company’s production of “American Night: The Ballad of Juan José” is slated to run through Feb. 17 at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.
Richard Montoya’s fast-paced satire centers on the glories and pratfalls of the American Dream.
Mexican immigrant Juan José has a feverish dream while studying for his U.S. citizenship exam. His obsession to pass leads him on a fantastical odyssey, guided by a handful of unsung citizens who made courageous choices in some of the country’s toughest times. He meets a parade of characters – ranging from Sacagawea to Teddy Roosevelt and Jackie Robinson – who take him on a mind-bending trip through U.S. history.
Rodrigo Garcia directs the production.
The cast includes Bay Area actors Alycia Adame, Dan Cardenas, Nique Eagen, Ron Johnson, John Stephen King, Paul Lee, Carlos Diego Mendoza, Dana Cordelia Morgan and Adrian Torres.
