Pear Theatre’s “Northanger Abbey” – adapted by Pear founder Diane Tasca from the novel by Jane Austen – opened last week and is slated to run through Sept. 23 in Mountain View.
Pear is staging two productions of “Abbey” – one with a senior cast of adult actors and the other with a junior cast featuring members of Pear Seeds, the company’s new youth theater program.
In classic Austen style, “Abbey” follows several young ladies and gentlemen as they negotiate romances, friendships, betrothals, betrayals and the general realization that life is not like an 18th-century Gothic novel. Tasca’s script was last produced at Pear in 2008.
Troy Johnson directs Pear’s senior production of “Abbey,” which features Matt Brown, Carolyn Compton, Damaris Divito, Leslie Ivy, Jim Johnson, Peter Ray Juarez, Christopher Mungovan and Dana Reynolds. Each actor performs several roles, including occasionally playing inanimate objects.
Pear’s junior production features Jillian Analla, Edith Craig, Lauren Krieger, Elsa Pitsch, Aparna Prabhakar, Jehan Rasmussen, Ellie Schwart and Aeryn Taylor. Melinda Marks directs, assisted by Betsy Kruse Craig.
The senior performances of “Abbey” are scheduled 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays (except Sept. 21) and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays. The junior shows are slated 7 p.m. Wednesdays, 2 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sept. 21.
The Pear Theatre is located at 1110 La Avenida St.
Tickets are $28-$32.
