Doralee (Allie Townsend) gives her manager Franklin (Aaron Hurley) a piece of her mind in “9 to 5 The Musical.”

Foothill Music Theatre presents “9 to 5 The Musical” through March 18 in Los Altos Hills.

The musical is a story about friendship, love, relationships, society and women’s roles in the workplace.

Based on screenwriter Patricia Resnick’s hit movie from 1980, the play features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, who starred in the film. Her country music-infused score received a Tony nomination.

Set in the late 1970s, “9 to 5” centers on three working women eager to crash through the glass ceiling. However, their sexist, lying boss tries to keep them down, so the women team up against him.

The musical stars Allie Townsend (Doralee), Glenna Murillo (Violet) and Rachelle Abbey (Judy), all making their Foothill Music Theatre debuts. Aaron Hurley returns to Foothill to play their chauvinistic boss, Franklin Hart. Another Foothill veteran, Angela Ceseña, portrays Roz Keith.

Milissa Carey directs; Dolores Duran-Cefalu is musical director.

Shows are slated 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays in Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College, 12345 S. El Monte Road.

Tickets are $12-$32. Parking is $3.
