Smuin is scheduled to bring “Dance Series 01” to Mountain View this week for five performances.
Part of its 24th season, “Dance Series 01” includes the pieces “Requiem for a Rose,” “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Serenade for Strings.” It debuted last fall in San Francisco.
Choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa produces “Requiem for a Rose,” set to what many consider to be Franz Schubert’s most romantic string composition, “Quintet in C.”
“Fly Me to the Moon” – produced by Michael Smuin – is a blend of ballet and popular dance, highlighting Frank Sinatra favorites such as “You and the Night and Music” and “I Won’t Dance,” and culminating in a full-chorus, high-kicking “New York, New York.”
“Serenade for Strings,” produced by choreographer Garrett Ammon, is a new interpretation of a piece tied to the 1934 Balanchine ballet “Serenade,” set to the Tchaikovsky score of the same name.
Performances are slated 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.
Tickets are $56-$74.
