A farewell to ferals: 'Cats' closes Sunday

SPOTLIGHT MOMENTS PHOTOGRAPHY
Uma Chirotarrab of Los Altos is in the cast of Peninsula Youth Theatre’s “Cats.”

This is the final weekend to catch Peninsula Youth Theatre’s production of the musical “Cats,” which won multiple Tony Awards during its run on Broadway.

Performances are scheduled through Sunday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” is based on T.S. Eliot’s “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.” Jellicle Cats come out at midnight for their annual ball, where they vie to be chosen for rebirth into a new life.

“This production will be a whole different experience than previous stagings of ‘Cats’ at (Peninsula Youth Theatre),” director and choreographer Meg Fischer Venuti said. “We won’t be portraying characters as literal pet cats in a human world, but rather in their own world.”

Shows are scheduled 9:30 a.m. Thursday, 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $16-$22.
