The cast of Peninsula Youth Theatre’s “Charlotte’s Web” includes, from left, Megan Foreman (of Los Altos) as Wilbur and Ellie Lang-Ree (Los Gatos) as Fern.

Peninsula Youth Theatre is scheduled to present “Charlotte’s Web,” a stage musical based on the 1952 classic children’s novel of the same name, Saturday through July 21 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

The play, an adaptation of E.B. White’s book, features songs from the classic cartoon version. Joseph Robinette wrote the stage adaptation, which includes music and lyrics by Charles Strouse.

The story centers on piglet Wilbur – the runt of the litter – who learns about love and friendship from farm girl Fern and a beloved spider.

Katie O’Bryon directs “Web,” supported by Dan Shaindlin (vocal direction).

“Charlotte’s Web is one of my favorites to direct because the material is so rich,” O’Bryon said. “Much of the dialogue comes straight from the book by E.B. White, who was such an exemplary writer. It has a tremendous appeal for both children and adults, and it’s really a story they can enjoy together.”

Performances are scheduled 1 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and July 20, 1 p.m. Sunday and July 21, and 10 a.m. July 18 and 19.

Tickets are $10-$20, with discounts for groups of 10 or more. The city of Mountain View adds a $2 facility-use fee to each ticket.
