Mtn. View High adding wrestling

The team will train at Los Altos High, but meets will be held at Mountain View, according to Smith.

As time ticked down in Saturday’s Central Coast Section Division II boys basketball final and with their team safely ahead, the jubilant fans in the Mountain View High student section chanted: “I believe that we will win.”

Apt words for the Spartans – it’s been their mantra since the season began.

Motivated by last year’s loss in the Central Coast Section Open Division final, the Mountain View High girls soccer team beat Mitty 3-1 in Friday’s title game at Santa Clara University.

“We lost a tough one last year to Woodside and to come back versus Mitty – (which is) a powerhouse – I think we’ve really shown we’re the best team this year,” coach Ivan Bandov said. “I’m just so happy for the girls. They deserved this night.”

Up against the nation’s top-ranked team in Friday’s Central Coast Section Open Division girls basketball final, Pinewood School faced a daunting task even before the Panthers learned just hours before tip off that their point guard would not play.

Yet third-seeded Pinewood, undermanned and undersized, still made No. 1 Mitty sweat for its 65-57 win at Santa Clara University.
