Quarterback Mike Lauck, who led St. Francis High to a Central Coast Section title last fall, will play for the North in next month’s all-star game.

Recent graduates of Mountain View, St. Francis and Homestead highs have committed to participate in the 39th annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game, scheduled 7:30 p.m. July 17 at San Jose City College.

Also known as the Silicon Valley Youth Classic, the contest showcases Santa Clara County’s top high school players from the Class of 2013.

Locals participants include defensive back Joe Flores and linebacker Chad Schaumburg of Mountain View High, defensive end Shane Artim and quarterback Mike Lauck of St. Francis High and Homestead High defensive back Mark Hirschbeck, a Los Altos resident. All of them will play on the North squad, coached by Cupertino High’s Chris Oswald.

The North will take on the South in a game that honors the late Charlie Wedemeyer, the longtime Los Gatos High football coach who suffered from ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease.
