Sprint for Sports

The Los Altos Athletic League’s inaugural Sprint for Sports event is scheduled 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Los Altos High track. The school’s fall-sport athletes will run, jog and walk laps in an effort to raise money for the athletic department. Each participant hopes to raise $100. Howard shines

Stanford University volleyball player Brittany Howard, a Mountain View High graduate, Nov. 5 was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. The outside hitter from Los Altos posted 14 kills in a win over Oregon State and eight kills in a victory over Oregon.

Baseball tryouts

Turkey Trot nears

Mountain View High’s third annual Spartan Turkey Trot is scheduled Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22. Race-day registration is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. on the school track. The 5K run is slated to start at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K walk at 8:35 a.m. A series of fun runs is planned immediately after the 5Ks: a 60-yard dash, a 400 dash and a mile run. The top three finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions of the 5K run will be awarded home-baked pumpkin pies and a gift certificate for the On Your Mark performance running store in Los Altos. PONY registration begins
