SF grad Mendoza receives award

San Jose State catcher Johnny Mendoza, a 2016 graduate of St. Francis High, was honored at the Santa Clara County Hot Stove Banquet Jan. 14. Mendoza was one of three college baseball players to receive a Loyd Christopher Coaches Award.

Meet spring coaches today at MVHS

Mountain View High’s parent/coach information meeting for the spring sports season is scheduled 6:30-8 p.m. today in the school’s Spartan Theater. The event is an opportunity for parents to meet the coaches and ask questions. Discussion topics will include eligibility, expectations and practice requirements. Spring sports begin practice Monday. Pins, forfeits keep Spartans atop division

The Mountain View High wrestling team’s strength-in-numbers approach has served the Spartans well this year.

“Our team is not that strong individually, but we’re dual-meet strong,” coach Ricardo Garcia said. “We don’t have a lot of superstars, but we have a lot of balance.”

Adult softball league welcomes players

The Vintage Softball Club of Santa Clara County, a slow-pitch league for men and women age 50 and over that includes Los Altos residents, seeks new members for 2020. Founded in 1987, the club offers year-round Saturday and weekday leagues – along with Monday nights in spring/summer – open to all skill levels. Some players are novices, most are intermediate and a few are in the Senior Softball Hall of Fame. A bat and glove are required. The annual membership fee is $50-$100. MV's miscues prove costly
