St. Francis defeats Mountain View in softball and boys lacrosse

The St. Francis High softball team slugged two home runs in last week’s season opener, a 4-2 non-league win over visiting Mountain View.

Both homers came in the fourth inning – Jessica Oakland hit a solo shot and Kennedy Adkison belted a two-run bomb that put the Lancers ahead 3-2. Oakland also drove in a run in the first with a double March 11.

St. Francis falls in NorCal hoops and girls soccer

Unable to take advantage of playing at home in the first round of the Northern California Division II playoffs, the St. Francis High boys basketball team fell to De Anza of El Sobrante 65-56 March 3.

Tied with the 10th-seeded Dons at halftime, the No. 7 Lancers were outscored 22-15 in the third quarter and got no closer than six points the rest of the way.

Local marathoner takes 5th in division

Dirk Hoekstra of Los Altos placed fifth in his division of the Napa Valley Marathon March 1. Competing in the men’s 70-99 age group, he finished the race in 4 hours, 42 minutes, 16 seconds.

MV sports boosters host golf tourney

The Mountain View High School Sports Boosters 2020 Golf Tournament is slated April 18 at Shoreline Golf Links. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start is set for noon. MVHS families, friends and students are welcome to participate in the third annual tourney, which uses a best-ball format. Registration is $150 for adults and $100 for students; cost includes lunch and happy hour event. Proceeds benefit the school’s athletic department. To register and for more information, visit

St. Francis soccer, girls hoops teams fall in section finals

Three teams from St. Francis High made it to the Central Coast Section finals last weekend, but all of them came away disappointed after losing close games.

The girls soccer team lost the Open Division final in overtime, the boys soccer squad dropped the Division III title game on penalty kicks and the girls basketball team wasn’t able to hold on to a fourth-quarter lead in the Division II final.
