St. Francis senior commits to college

St. Francis High girls volleyball player Gabby Silva recently committed to CSU Dominguez Hills. The senior libero ranked fourth on the Lancers in digs and aces this past season.

NFHS provides free officiating classes

With so many people stuck at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, the National Federation of State High School Associations recently made its officiating courses available online for free through July 1. Current high school officials and those interested in joining the officiating ranks are welcome to access the 11 courses at nfhslearn.com. Courses include basketball, football, soccer, swimming and diving, volleyball, wrestling and softball, in addition to a general course titled Interscholastic Officiating. Multiple courses are offered in basketball, soccer and volleyball. Those interested in becoming an official after taking any of the courses may visit HighSchoolOfficials.com for more information.

Pinewood’s Garcia commits to Cal Poly

Maia Garcia, a junior on the Pinewood School girls basketball team, recently revealed on Twitter that she has made an early commitment to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. “I am so excited to announce that I have committed to further my education and basketball career at Cal Poly SLO!,” the 6-foot-3 center posted. “Thank you to my family, coaches and friends for the endless support! So blessed that I am able to rep the green and gold for four more years.” Garcia averaged 9.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game this past season.

MV Sports Boosters offer scholarships

The Mountain View High School Sports Boosters are accepting applications for the pair of $1,500 scholarships they will award to a male and female athlete next month. To be eligible, an applicant must be a Mountain View senior who has participated in two or more seasons of a sport and has a GPA of at least 2.5. The application requires a recommendation from a coach and writing an essay. Scholarships may go toward a four-year or two-year college, a trade school or a qualifying continuing education program. Pinewood’s Decker honored for play

Pinewood School’s Annika Decker has been selected for one of the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Girls Basketball Teams. The point guard made Second Team Juniors, comprising 12 players from throughout the state. Decker averaged 10.1 points, 4.8 assists and two steals per game this past season and shot 41% from 3-point range.
