FH women’s hoops to resume next fall

Although Foothill College has a new women’s basketball coach in Anna Harp, she doesn’t have a team this season. “Anna was hired as head coach late summer at a time when most of the community college-bound athletes had made their school choices and were attending other colleges,” athletic director Mike Teijeiro said. “I didn’t feel it was appropriate to bring a new coach aboard with diminished recruiting opportunities and little time to scramble a roster together.” Suspending play this season gives Harp more time to recruit 2020 high school graduates to fill next year’s team, Teijeiro added.

In what Mountain View High boys soccer coach Jim McGuirk described as a “very defensive game,” his Spartans played host Los Altos to a scoreless tie Friday.

“We had two (scoring chances) – that’s it,” said McGuirk, whose team is now 1-0-1 in the SCVAL De Anza Division and 7-1-2 overall. “One free kick that went off the post and then one breakaway that just slid past the post.”
