SF grad scores goal for SCU soccer team

St. Francis High graduate Delaney Baie Pridham made Santa Clara University’s first goal in last week’s 4-1 home win over Cal in women’s soccer. The junior midfielder scored on a header in the 12th minute. In the second half, Pridham assisted on the Broncos’ third goal. Santa Clara, which improved to 2-0 for the season, is ranked 19th in the nation.

Youth hoops camp nears at MVHS

Spartans Sports Camp’s Fall Basketball Camp is scheduled to tip off next weekend and run for seven Saturdays in the Mountain View High gym. Open to boys and girls in grades 3-8, the half-day camp covers shooting, ball handling and defense. The camp is slated 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 8, 15 and 22 and Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Cost is $375 for all seven Saturdays (or $60 daily rate) and includes a T-shirt, water bottle and drawstring backpack. Scholarships are available. Proceeds benefit Mountain View High sports. MV volleyball honored

The American Volleyball Coaches Association recently announced that last season’s Mountain View High girls volleyball team has earned an AVCA Team Academic Award. The awards are distributed to squads that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average during the school year; the Spartans averaged a 3.5. Team members included Milayzia Bajala, Antonia Boscacci, Maddy Dunkle, Nicole Guibord, Eleonore Johansen, Ashley Kane, Hunter Leong, Kiana Manson, Audrey Moir, Aidan O’Leary, Kyra Palmbush, Lauren Price, Payton Shaffer, Reyhaneh Turner and Logan Winn. This marks the fourth year in a row that the Mountain View program has been recognized by the AVCA.

Registration for the Foothill Chapter of National Junior Basketball’s returning players and their siblings is scheduled 8 a.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Registration for new players is slated 8 a.m. Aug. 30 through 8 p.m. Sept. 1. The Foothill Chapter is open to third- through eighth-grade boys and girls, along with high school boys, who live in Los Altos, Mountain View, Sunnyvale and the portion of Los Altos Hills assigned to the Los Altos School District. SFHS honored as DII State School of Year

Cal-Hi Sports last month named St. Francis High the Division II State School of the Year for 2017-18. The Lancers won state championships in boys cross-country and football, their girls swim team took third at the state meet and their boys golf team placed fourth at the state tournament. In addition, St. Francis won Northern California crowns in football and boys and girls water polo, along with Central Coast Section titles in baseball, boys cross-country, boys golf, girls soccer and softball.

Cities meet on field Saturday for softball

The teams have been set, and residents of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills are encouraged to attend the inaugural community softball game between the two towns, scheduled 1-3 p.m. Saturday. The friendly coed match is coordinated by the Parks and Recreation departments of both cities, according to Sarah Robustelli, Los Altos Hills community services supervisor.
