Tennis & hoops camps start next week at MV

Spartans Sports Camp’s spring break basketball and tennis camps for boys and girls in grades 3-8 are scheduled Monday through April 13 at Mountain View High. Both camps run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; half-day sessions are offered as well. The basketball camp focuses on shooting, ball-handling and defense; the tennis camp is for beginner- and intermediate-level players and emphasizes volleys, ground strokes and serves. Weekly rates for each camp are $285 for half-day sessions, $395 for the full day. Daily rates are $65 for half-day sessions, $90 for the full day. Proceeds benefit Mountain View High athletics. Free tennis clinic offered Saturday

Mountain View Tennis has scheduled a free tennis clinic with its pros 1-3 p.m. Saturday on the courts at Cuesta Park. Adults and juniors of all levels are welcome. Pitchers lead LA to league sweep of Cupertino

Behind complete games from Ryan Baum and Alex Reelfs, the Los Altos High baseball team swept Cupertino last week to even its record at 3-3 in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division.

Baum went the distance in the series opener, a 3-2 home victory March 28, and Reelfs threw a complete game in Friday’s 2-1 road win.

MVLA soccer players attend national camp

Three players from the Mountain View Los Altos Soccer Club participated in the U.S. U14 Girls National Training Camp that wrapped up earlier this month in Norco. The girls – Allison Montoya, Leah O’Brien and Charis Toney – are all members of MVLA Barcelona ECNL, an under-14 team.

LAHS Color Run set for next month

The fourth annual Los Altos High School Color Run, a fundraiser for the athletics program, is slated April 28 on the campus. A color run features checkpoints along the route at which the participants are sprinkled with colored powder. Three events are scheduled: the Community 5K Fun Run (featuring music and prizes; families and strollers welcome) at 5 p.m., the Quad Festival (food and children’s games) at 6 p.m. and the High School 5K Costume Run (music and prizes; high school students only) at 7 p.m. Registration fees are $30 for adults, $20 for high school students, $10 for children 6-13 and free for ages 5 and under. LA track team sweeps Lynbrook; Eagles rout Saratoga in baseball

The Los Altos High boys and girls track teams ran their respective records to 2-0 in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division with overwhelming wins over host Lynbrook Thursday.

The boys prevailed 85-42, while the girls won 89-38.
