LA native homers in first Cal Poly at-bat

In her first college at-bat, St. Francis High graduate Hailey Prahm belted a three-run homer for the Cal Poly softball team last month. The freshman from Los Altos helped the Mustangs complete the three-game sweep of visiting St. Mary’s.

CIF invites seniors to apply for awards

The California Interscholastic Federation, which governs the state’s high school sports, is accepting applications for the 2021 CIF Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards. Applicants must be college-bound seniors whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary and whose personal standards and accomplishments are a positive model for others, according to the CIF. Two winners will be chosen; each will receive a $5,000 scholarship. The deadline is Monday. To apply and for more information, visit

The National Federation for State High School Associations offers free online courses. Positive Sport Parenting provides information on the importance of proper behavior by parents in school sports and the role they should play to ensure their children have a positive experience. NCAA Eligibility aims to educate high school coaches, administrators and parents about the NCAA’s initial-eligibility requirements.
