Coach with local roots recognized nationally

Los Altos native Cheryl Owiesny, the women’s soccer coach at De Anza College, is being honored at this week’s United Soccer Coaches Convention, held digitally due to the pandemic.

The St. Francis High graduate is set to receive a United Soccer Coaches Letter of Commendation for her contributions to the sport. Owiesny is among five coaches in the nation being recognized at the convention for their service to, impact on and/or positive influence on the association and/or the game of soccer in the U.S. Owiesny, the head coach at De Anza for 27 years, serves as the national chair for the Junior College Women’s Division III All-America Committee and is the California representative for the Junior College Women’s Division III Staff of the Year Committee.
