Pinewood grad Jump on team ranked No. 2

The Stanford University women’s basketball team, which includes Pinewood School graduate Hannah Jump, ranks second in the Associated Press Top 25 preseason poll released earlier this month. Jump is a sophomore shooting guard who played an average of 10.6 minutes per game last season. Her 41.3 percent shooting from 3-point range led the Cardinal.

Spartan Turkey Trot goes virtual this week

The 11th-annual Spartan Turkey Trot, a run/walk to support Mountain View High athletics, will be virtual this year. Participants can do the 5K and/or the Spartan Mile anytime over Thanksgiving weekend (Thursday through Sunday) and choose their own course. The top three finishers in the male and female divisions of the 5K and Spartan Mile races will receive a gift certificate for a Marie Callender’s pie and a gift certificate to A Runner’s Mind in Los Altos. Submit race results online. Registration is $30 for adults, $20 for ages 5-17 (discounted to $15 for students at Mountain View and Los Altos highs) and $10 for children under 5. Tree lots support high school athletics

The Spartans Tree Lot, run by the Mountain View High School Sports Boosters, is back in business – only this year, it’s online. Order trees and accessories at; deliveries begin Friday. Proceeds benefit Mountain View High athletics. Volunteer delivery drivers (no students) are also needed; sign up at The Los Altos High School Athletic Boosters Holiday Tree Lot also opens Friday, but in its usual location: the parking lot at Chase Bank, 749 W. El Camino Real in Mountain View. The lot’s hours are 3:30-8 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends through Dec. 23. Proceeds support Los Altos High athletics.
