Spartan Turkey Trot going virtual
The 11th-annual Spartan Turkey Trot, a run/walk to support Mountain View High athletics, will be virtual this year. Participants can do the 5K and/or the Spartan Mile anytime over Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 26-29) and choose their own course.
The top three finishers in the male and female divisions of the 5K and Spartan Mile races will receive a gift certificate for a Marie Callender’s pie and a gift certificate to A Runner’s Mind in Los Altos. Submit race results online. Registration is $30 for adults, $20 for ages 5-17 (discounted to $15 for students at Mountain View and Los Altos highs) and $10 for children under 5. Register by Thursday to be guaranteed a race T-shirt before the event. Race packets will be distributed Nov. 25 at Mountain View High; pull into the parking lot to pick them up from a volunteer. Nominees sought for Double-Goal Coaches
The Positive Coaching Alliance welcomes nominations for its 2020 Double-Goal Coach Awards, which honor coaches who not only strive to win, but teach life lessons through sports and show players how to respect the game. The deadline is Nov. 30. Nominees must have at least three years’ experience coaching at a school or with a club or rec team. The 100 regional winners will be announced in February and the 25 national winners in March, each of whom will receive $500. One nominee will be named the PCA National Coach of the Year and win $10,000 ($2,500 for the coach and $7,500 donated to the school or youth sport organization of the coach’s choice). CIF offers newsletter for parents
The California Interscholastic Federation, the governing body for the state’s high school sports, issues a free monthly newsletter via email for parents/guardians of student-athletes in California.
