Locals help Chapman make school history

Six graduates of local high schools played on this year’s history-making Chapman University football team. The Panthers went undefeated (9-0) in the regular season for the first time and won their first-ever NCAA Division III playoff game (68-65 in triple overtime against Linfield College) before falling to St. John’s University 55-26 in the second round last month. Locals included quarterback Reed Vettel, defensive back Patrick Calcagno and offensive linemen Alex Waddell and Ryan Moles from St. Francis High, along with defensive ends Noah Kjos and Alphonso Barmore from Mountain View High.
