MV golf, tennis teams make grade

Mountain View High’s girls golf and girls tennis teams have won Central Coast Section 2019-2020 Fall Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards for earning collective grade-point averages that rank among the top five in their respective sports. Both teams posted 3.828 GPAs. Only one golf team in the CCS had a better GPA than Mountain View; the tennis team had the third-best GPA. The Spartans received team certificates and individual certificates of commendation from the CCS, which instituted the awards in 1985.

Tree lot benefits MVHS athletics

A holiday tree lot benefiting athletics and performing arts programs at Mountain View High is slated to open 10 a.m. Nov. 29 next to the school’s football field at 3535 Truman Ave. After opening day, operating hours are 5-8 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends. The nonprofit Mountain View High School Sports Boosters manages the lot, which will offer noble, Douglas and Nordmann firs, along with wreaths, tree stands and decorative reindeer. Softball tryouts set for Dec. 1

The Silicon Valley Fusion’s tryouts for its 14, 16 and 18 A-level travel softball teams is scheduled Dec. 1 at Mountain View High, 3535 Truman Ave., with make-ups set for Dec. 8. CIF offers scholarships to high school seniors

The California Interscholastic Federation, which governs the state’s high school sports, is accepting applications for the 2020 CIF Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards. The awards are aimed at “college-bound seniors whose academic and athletic careers have been truly exemplary and whose personal standards and accomplishments are a positive model for others,” according to the CIF website. The CIF will award $5,000 scholarships to two state winners and $1,000 scholarships to 20 section winners. The application includes writing an essay. The deadline is Feb. 20. MVHS hosts youth basketball camp

Spartans Sports Camp’s Holiday Basketball Camp is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 26-30 at Mountain View High School, 3535 Truman Ave. Open to boys and girls in grades 3-8, the fast-paced camp focuses on honing shooting, ball-handling and defensive skills.
