Fall sports registration opens at high schools

Mtn. View Tennis offers summer classes

Mountain View Tennis’ summer recreation classes are scheduled Saturday through Aug. 30 at Cuesta, Rengstorff, Whisman, Cooper and Sylvan parks. Day and evening classes for all ages and skill levels are offered; fees vary by class. In addition, weekly summer tennis camps for ages 7-14 run through Aug. 16 at Cuesta. Chamber golf tourney tees off Aug. 5

The 30th annual Los Altos Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is scheduled Aug. 5 at Los Altos Golf & Country Club, 1560 Country Club Drive. Cost is $335; fee includes lunch, tee prizes, silent auction, cocktails and barbecue dinner, as well as awards and prizes. Cost to attend only the post-golf party is $65. Local towns schedule softball game Aug. 17

Residents of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills are encouraged to register for the second community softball game between the two cities, scheduled 1-3 p.m. Aug. 17. The coed game – meant as a friendly, cross-town rivalry competition – will take place at Rosita Park, 401 Rosita Ave., Los Altos. Participation is free and open to all adult residents. Registration still open for AYSO Region 43

Registration remains open for AYSO Region 43’s fall soccer season. The Los Altos-based region is for boys and girls born in 2006-2015. Students from Santa Rita, Covington, Almond, Gardner Bullis, Bullis Charter, Pinewood, St. Nicholas and Egan schools usually play in Region 43. AYSO has six philosophies: everyone plays, player development, positive coaching, good sportsmanship, balanced teams and open registration. To register and for more information, visit

City of Mountain View offers open gym

The Mountain View Recreation Division’s Teen Open Gym, free and open to the city’s middle and high school students, is scheduled 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Whisman Sports Center, 1500 Middlefield Road. The weekly events offer youth a place to play basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer. Participants are required to show their student IDs at the door. For more information, call 903-6331.
