Homestead graduate excels on & off court

Los Altos native Alisha Parikh, a member of the Emerson College women’s tennis team, was named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference’s 2019 Academic All-Conference Team. To be eligible for the honor, students must have played on varsity for the entire season and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. Parikh, a Homestead High graduate and former Town Crier intern, played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as a junior this season.

Summer solstice ride set for June 21

GreenTown Los Altos’ summer solstice night bike ride is slated 7:30 p.m. June 21. The 18-mile ride begins at Peet’s Coffee & Tea in downtown Los Altos and travels on Los Altos Avenue into Palo Alto before stopping at the Baylands to enjoy the sunset at 8:32 p.m. Cyclists return to Los Altos via the Stevens Creek Trail, with an optional stop in Mountain View for hot chocolate, coffee and socializing. AYSO Region 43 kicks off registration

Registration has opened for AYSO Region 43’s fall soccer season. The Los Altos-based region is for boys and girls born in 2006-2015. Students from Santa Rita, Covington, Almond, Gardner Bullis, Bullis Charter, Pinewood, St. Nicholas and Egan schools usually play in Region 43. AYSO has six philosophies: everyone plays, player development, positive coaching, good sportsmanship, balanced teams and open registration. To register and for more information, visit ayso43.org.

Registration still open for basketball camp

Los Altos Basketball Camp, directed by Los Altos High boys basketball coach Trevor Naas, offers sessions Monday through June 20 and June 24-27. Both sessions run 9 a.m. to noon in the school’s gym. The camp is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. Campers will learn fundamentals and participate in drills, competitions and games. Cost is $225 for one session or $400 for both.
