Jessica Day’s walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning enabled the Mountain View High softball team to edge Los Gatos 6-5, tightening the Spartans’ grasp on first place in the SCVAL De Anza Division.
Lauren Dove scored the decisive run April 23.
Day finished 3-for-4 at the plate. Teammate Emily Klemm was 2-for-3 with two home runs; her seventh-inning shot tied the game.
Simiran Lauwers earned the win in relief, allowing one hit and no runs in an inning of work.
Coupled with Thursday’s 7-1 victory at Homestead, Mountain View improved to 9-0 in league and 14-4 overall. Dove went 3-for-4; Lauwers picked up the win by limiting the Mustangs to three hits and striking out four batters.
Los Altos locked up the SCVAL El Camino Division title by routing Lynbrook 211-242 Thursday at Shoreline Golf Links. Sophomore Luke Jun and junior Mavin Lin posted rounds of 3-over-par to pace the Eagles, who finished 12-0 in league.
Los Altos was scheduled to compete in the SCVAL finals Tuesday (after the Town Crier’s press deadline) at Santa Teresa Golf Course.
Mountain View dropped both of its games last week, slumping to 2-10 overall.
The Spartans fell 14-3 at home to Menlo-Atherton April 23 and lost 13-1 at Los Gatos Thursday.
Niles Lo scored two goals against Menlo-Atherton and Miles Lin had the other. Lin produced Mountain View’s lone goal versus Los Gatos.
