Rebounding from what coach Jim McGuirk described as “a rough week,” the Mountain View High boys soccer team rallied in the second half to edge Pioneer 2-1 Dec. 12.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the visiting Spartans pulled ahead on a pair of goals by Ben Smith. The road win boosted the Spartans’ record to 3-2-1.
“We played a bit better (this game),” said McGuirk, whose team went 0-2-1 the week before.
Los Altos tied Menlo 2-all Dec. 11. The host Eagles went to 2-0-3.
Mountain View improved to 6-0 with last week’s 2-1 win at Carlmont.
Freshman Allie Montoya scored both goals for the Spartans in the second half of the Dec. 11 non-league game. Sydney Arrillaga and Janvi Subramanyan each notched an assist.
St. Francis played Aptos to a 1-all tie Dec. 11. Amanda Mickwee scored for the host Lancers, assisted by Caroline Kane.
St. Francis upped its record to 3-0-1.
Los Altos suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 45-40 at Piedmont Hills Dec. 11.
The Eagles (5-1) made just four of their 19 attempts from 3-point range.
Jamie Baum and Mone Sekiguchi led Los Altos with 11 points each and Mahika Gupta added 10.
St. Francis remained undefeated by beating Seaside 65-56 Dec. 11. The visiting Lancers (6-0) led by three at halftime.
Paige Uyehara paced St. Francis with 16 points and Jessica Oakland chipped in 11.
Mountain View toppled Oak Grove 38-25 Dec. 12, holding the host team to single-digit points in every quarter.
Audrey Telkamp scored 15 points for the Spartans and Annie Eggleton contributed 10.
Mountain View, which fell at home to Mission San Jose the day before, went to 3-2.
After a slow start, Los Altos surged ahead of Hillsdale with a 20-8 second-quarter run en route to a 54-48 home win last week.
The Eagles improved to 6-2 with the Dec. 11 victory.
Down by two at halftime, Pinewood outscored Kehillah Jewish 33-21 in the second half to win 62-52 Dec. 11.
The host Panthers boosted their record to 6-2.
