MVHS grad leads U.S. to FINA crown

Under the guidance of Mountain View High graduate Adam Krikorian, the U.S. women’s water polo team last month won the FINA World Cup title for the third time in a row. Team USA beat host Russia 8-5 in the Sept. 9 final. Krikorian, a Mountain View native, has coached the team since 2009.

Dig Pink Match slated Tuesday at LAHS

The girls volleyball teams from Los Altos and Palo Alto highs are co-hosting the seventh annual Dig Pink Match and Bake Sale, scheduled Tuesday in the Los Altos High gym. The event aims to promote breast cancer awareness and raise money for research and compassionate support projects. The JV match between the schools is set for 5:30 p.m. and the varsity match at 6:45 p.m. Admission is free. Attendees may show their support by wearing pink to make it a “pink out” and donate money to the cause at the match or online at giving.side-out.org/campaigns/14445#. City of Mtn. View offers open gym

The Mountain View Recreation Division’s Teen Open Gym, free and open to the city’s middle and high school students, is slated 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Whisman Sports Center, 1500 Middlefield Road. The weekly events offer youth a place to play basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer. Participants must show their student IDs. For more information, call 903-6331.
