LA resident plays on winning jr. golf team

A golf team from Saratoga Country Club defeated a squad from Los Altos Golf & Country Club last month to win the Southwest Division of the Bay Cities League of Junior Golfers. Los Altos resident Paden Ikeda played on the Saratoga team, which went 5-1.

CIF sets deadline for Spirit of Sport apps

The deadline to apply for the 2018 Fall CIF Spirit of Sport Award is Sept. 24. The California Interscholastic Federation, which governs the state’s high school sports, recognizes one male and one female student-athlete during each season of sport for exemplary sportsmanship, school/community service and leadership. Winners receive a patch, an award, a $500 scholarship and recognition at next spring’s year-end CIF Federated Council dinner in Burlingame. To apply, visit cifstate.org.

City of Mtn. View offers open gym

The Mountain View Recreation Division’s Teen Open Gym, free and open to the city’s middle and high school students, is scheduled 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturdays at the Whisman Sports Center, 1500 Middlefield Road. The weekly events offer youth a place to play basketball, volleyball and indoor soccer. Participants are required to show their student IDs at the door. For more information, call 903-6331.
