Local golfers shine at junior tourney

St. Francis High sophomore Doodle Yuen and Los Altos High senior Simar Singh finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the girls division of last month’s AJGA Junior golf tournament at the Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland. Yuen posted a two-round score of 148; Singh shot 149. On the boys side, Los Altos High junior Carlos Arieta Winsett tied for 25th with a 150.

LAHS hosts fundraiser for gymnastics teams

A Kids Night Out Fundraiser for the gymnastics teams at Los Altos and Mountain View highs is scheduled 6-9 p.m. Friday in the small gym at Los Altos High, 201 Almond Ave. Geared for ages 5-10, the event will include games and pizza. Pathways Run/Walk planned for Saturday

The 17th annual Pathways Run/Walk is scheduled 9 a.m. Saturday at Byrne Preserve in Los Altos Hills. The run features a hilly 5K and 10K run/walk through Byrne Preserve, along the town’s pathways system. Registration is $45 in advance, $50 on race day for the 5K and 10K; $30 in advance and $35 on race day for the 1-Mile Fun Run. MVHS Sports Boosters offer scholarships

The Mountain View High School Sports Boosters are accepting applications for the pair of $1,500 scholarships they plan to award to a college-bound male and female athlete next month. To be eligible, applicants must be a Mountain View senior who has participated in two or more seasons of a sport and has a GPA of at least 2.5. The application requires a recommendation from a coach and writing an essay. The deadline is May 17; recipients will be honored May 23. Red Star soccer tryouts kick off this month

Mountain View-based Red Star Soccer Academy has scheduled tryouts for the fall season May 21 through June 8. The club is open to boys ages 7-18 and girls 7-17. The nonprofit organization offers scholarships and financial aid. For more information, visit redstarsoccer.net.

Local water polo club offers summer sessions

Los Altos-based NorCal Aquatics has openings in its Youth Summer Water Polo Program, open to boys and girls ages 6-14. Executive director Seth Tasman said the program is structured to help build character and self-esteem, and instill a strong work ethic. Two-hour summer sessions are scheduled Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through May 31, and weekdays June 4 through July 20 at Los Altos High.
