Inkster captains U.S. to Solheim Cup victory
Los Altos resident and LPGA Hall of Famer Juli Inkster last month became only the second U.S. captain to win the Solheim Cup twice. Inkster’s team of American pros beat a squad from Europe decisively at the biennial golf tournament, which this year was held at Des Moines Golf and Country Club in Iowa. She also served as captain in 2015, when the U.S. rallied to beat Europe in Germany.
Flag football camp kicks off Friday
The Los Altos School District’s 13th flag football season is set to kick off Friday and run through the week of Oct. 30. The league is open to boys and girls in grades 4-8 who attend LASD schools. Fall basketball at MV tips off Saturday
Spartans Sports Camp’s Fall Basketball Camp is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, this week through Oct. 28, in the Mountain View High gym. It is open to boys and girls in grades 3-8. Shooting, ball handling and defense will be among the skills covered in the fast-paced camp. Registration is $375 for all seven Saturdays or $60 per day. CIF sets deadline for Spirit of Sport apps
The deadline to apply for the 2017 Fall CIF Spirit of Sport Award is Sept. 25. The California Interscholastic Federation, which governs the state’s high schools, recognizes one male and one female student-athlete during each season of sport for exemplary sportsmanship, school/community service and leadership.
