Logan caps volleyball career; Quinlan named All-Freshman

Several college athletes with local roots enjoyed stellar seasons last fall. Their accomplishments follow.

• Los Altos High graduate Paige Logan capped her college volleyball career in November. Introduced on Senior Night as the “greatest player in Caltech history,” she promptly showed why – notching a career-high 25 kills and 18 digs in a four-game loss to West Coast Baptist. Logan leaves the program as the career leader in kills and second in blocks.

• Riley Quinlan of Los Altos, a cadet at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, was named to the Western Water Polo Association All-Freshman Team. The utility player recorded four goals, three assists and four steals while playing all 18 games for Air Force. Quinlan was captain of the Bellarmine boys team in 2012, which won the Central Coast Section Division I championship.

• Los Altos resident Olivia Quaglia was one of three members of the Dartmouth College field hockey team to earn All-Ivy League honors. The senior received Honorable Mention distinction after anchoring the Dartmouth defense by playing in the middle of the backfield. Quaglia started all 17 games for the fourth consecutive year. The St. Francis High graduate set career highs for goals (six), assists (six) and defensive saves (five).

• Los Altos High graduates and sisters Laura and Lisa Murphy played in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament. Laura, a junior, started at right defense for Mount Holyoke College; Lisa, a sophomore, played off the bench as a midfielder for Christopher Newport University. Laura’s team reached the round of 16, while Lisa’s squad advanced to the semifinals.

• Tori Carroll, a sophomore outside hitter on the Foothill College women’s volleyball team, was named First Team All-American. The Los Altos native and Homestead High graduate helped the Owls finish first in the Coast Conference South Division and reach the second round of the regional playoffs.

• Aided by Mountain View High graduate Jeremy Gomberg, the University of Redlands men’s golf team won the CSU San Marcos Classic, the final fall tuneup before the spring season. The senior shot a three-round total of 215 to finish sixth overall. The Bulldogs won the tournament by 30 strokes.
