Run for Hope

The Jingle 5K Run/Walk is scheduled 9 a.m. Sunday, starting and finishing in front of the running store On Your Mark, 378 Main St., Los Altos. The family-friendly event benefits Hope’s Corner, a local charity that will provide toys to children in need for the holidays. Locals make national

Two local members of the Palo Alto Lightning Track & Field Club – Owen MacKenzie (11/12 boys division) of Los Altos Hills and Meskerem Baike (under-8 girls) of Mountain View – have qualified for Saturday’s National Junior Olympics in San Antonio. Both runners advanced by placing at the Region 14 Junior Olympics Dec. 1 in Fresno.

Holiday hoops camp

Spartans Sports Camp’s second Coed Holiday Basketball Camp is scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 26-28 and 30-31 at Mountain View High. It is open to boys and girls in grades 4-8. Mountain View coaches and alumni will teach participants how to improve their shooting, ball handling, defense and other skills. Registration is $195; partial sessions may be prorated. The MVLA High School Christmas Tree Lot is open for business at the corner of El Camino Real and El Monte Avenue in Mountain View. Hours are 4-7 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends.
