Summer's been smooth sailing for teen Tadros

As the wind whistles through his hair off the coast of North Carolina, Amir Tadros hits 15 mph.

It’s June 27, and the Los Altos High School rising senior is about to take ninth place at the U.S. Sailing Youth Championships at Wrightsville Beach. Hanging off the side of the dinghy, Tadros balances the boat’s weight while his sailing partner, Justin Lim, adjusts the team’s course.

Spiders wrap up regular season of ultimate Frisbee league Friday night at Foothill

The San Jose Spiders will take the field at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills this weekend for their last regular-season match.

The Spiders (5-8) are set to take on the Seattle Cascades (4-8) 7:30 p.m. Friday in a matchup of teams from the American Ultimate Disc League’s West division.

Ask Marcus White exactly what he does at NBC Sports Bay Area, and expect a long answer. The Los Altos native, officially a content miner for the massive sports network, seems to be doing … well, everything.

“(Content miner) is a position that involves wearing a lot of hats,” White said. “I write for the Great White Blog, at nbcsports.com, and then I also do some copy editing, photo editing, a little bit of video editing as well ... and then some social media management thrown in there.”

Local gymnasts honored by CCS for high grades

The gymnastics teams from the local high schools not only performed well on the beam, bars, floor and vault but also in the classroom this year.

The varsity squads from Los Altos, St. Francis and Mountain View highs recently received 2018 Spring Season Scholastic Championship Team Awards from the Central Coast Section for posting collective grade point averages that ranked among the top five teams in their sport. The Eagles, Lancers and Spartans also placed among the top five at last month’s CCS gymnastics championships.
