Joe Schram attends a barbecue in his honor at St. Francis High in 2012, when the school established a scholarship in his name. The Los Altos resident died Aug. 1 after battling diabetes.

He never played for or coached at the school, yet few people can match Joe Schram’s contributions to St. Francis High athletics.

The longtime Los Altos resident, who died Aug. 1 at age 86, devoted more than 40 years of his life to the Lancers. Schram announced games, kept stats and records, took photos and wrote media guides – all as a volunteer.
