St. Francis High’s Logan Johnson fires up a 3 to beat the shot-clock buzzer in the NorCal Division II final.

With so many local high school teams and individual athletes excelling on every level – league, section, region and even state – it was tough to whittle down the list of the Town Crier’s top sports stories of the year to only 10.

Swimmers from Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (PASA) have raised more than $3,500 for a swim team in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricane Maria.

Several PASA members who helped raise money are Los Altos residents, including Sylvie Patterson. The 11-year-old played a prominent role in the fundraiser for Nadadores Ponce Leones Swim Team in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Thanksgiving morning marks the start of the eighth annual Spartan Turkey Trot, the only race ever approved to run on the streets of Mountain View.

The race – which starts and finishes at Mountain View High and also includes nearby streets – is the brainchild of Mike Mulkey, former assistant coach of the Spartans’ boys basketball team. The turkey trot has grown from approximately 100 participants in 2010 to nearly 1,200 last year.
