Reeya Vasishta, above, and the rest of the Mountain View High girls golf team have qualified for the CCS championships.

For St. Francis High, qualifying for the Central Coast Section girls golf championships is par for the course; the Lancers have now made it 10 years in a row. But for Mountain View High, which also earned a spot in this week’s event, it’s groundbreaking.

The Spartans, who started their program in 2016 and only this season moved up to the SCVAL De Anza Division, have qualified for CCS for the first time.

Stricherz takes over girls golf program at St. Francis High

St. Francis High officials last month named Anne Stricherz the school’s new varsity girls golf coach.

Stricherz spent the past 17 years teaching religion at St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco, where she also served as the school’s junior varsity girls golf coach. St. Francis and St. Ignatius are both part of the West Catholic Athletic League.

Friends and family of Peter Swenson gathered at Moffett Field Golf Course March 15 to celebrate the Mountain View resident for recording four holes-in-one on local golf courses – a feat they commemorated on a framed plaque they gave him.

The retired defense systems engineer twice aced hole No. 4 at Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course in 2014 and bagged a pair of holes-in-one last year: the second holes at Deep Cliff Golf Course in Cupertino and Los Lagos Golf Course in San Jose.
