LA's Chou takes third at AJGA Jr. in Daly City

Los Altos resident Megan Chou placed third among the 60 girls competing in last week’s AJGA Junior at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City.

Chou, entering her junior year at Pinewood School, shot an 11-over-par 227 over three rounds. That put her four strokes behind winner Yu Wen Lu of Shanghai, China.

The St. Francis High boys golf team didn’t have its best day at the state championships, and that’s what it would have taken to compete for the title May 28 at San Gabriel Country Club.

The Lancers finished fourth with a 384, which was 26 strokes behind winner Torrey Pines and 24 back of runner-up Palm Desert.

St. Francis High boys golf coach Brian Inkster acknowledged that the pressure of playing in last week’s Northern California championships might have gotten to some of his players – just not Easton Doyle.

“Easton is a little more easygoing than the rest of them,” Inkster said. “He was pretty relaxed, and I think the other guys were tighter.”

After watching his team place second at the Central Coast Section regional the week before, St. Francis High boys golf coach Brian Inkster was confident the Lancers could finish on top at the CCS finals.

“It was the same course as the regional, and we played a tad sloppy that day,” he said. “I knew if we played our game, we had a good chance.”
