The Junior Tour of Northern California’s point season ended Aug. 1 with a tournament at Bayonet and Black Horse golf courses in Seaside, where three golfers with local ties landed in the top 15 in their respective championship flights.
Tharusyan Pillay placed second among the boys at the sixth annual Junior Tour of Northern California Championship, while Kelsey Kawaguchi and Emma Rayes finished 11th and 15th, respectively, on the girls’ side.
Pillay, who graduated from St. Francis High in May, found himself in a three-way tie for first after 36 holes with an even-par score of 144. That led to a sudden-death playoff against Nicklaus Rivera and William Brueckner.
After eliminating Brueckner on the first playoff hole, Rivera and Columbia University-bound Pillay each shot par on the second hole. Rivera prevailed by shooting par on the third hole, which Pillay bogeyed.
Kawaguchi, entering her senior year at Los Altos High, posted a score of 163 over two rounds. The Los Altos resident shot an 81 the first day.
Reyes, a Mountain View resident, totaled 166. She shot a 78 the first day.
