The Nationals of Los Altos & Los Altos Hills Little League last week repeated as Majors champions, beating the Yankees 10-0. That was the same score as last year’s title game, which also ended in four innings on the mercy rule.
Another similarity: Andy Higgins again pitched the Nats to victory June 5. He threw four perfect innings, striking out four.
The Yanks, whom the Nats defeated in the first round (5-2 score) as well, battled back from the losers bracket to reach the final. The Nats jumped out to a three-run lead in the first, scored five in the second – with Channing Hautop homering – and added two more runs in the fourth.
“I am very proud of this group of young men, who continued to play better and better throughout the season,” Nats head coach Keith Higgins said. “We absolutely peaked during the playoffs with clutch hitting, tremendous pitching and great catching and defense. Of course, a bit of luck never hurts. Hats off to the Yankees for their Cinderella run through the playoffs. They are a great team and very well coached.”
