Los Altos High pitcher Alex Reelfs’ first start of the baseball season was almost perfect. The junior pitched a no-hitter in the Eagles’ 4-0 home win over Gunn to open the season Feb. 21.
Reelfs threw only 92 pitches and struck out 13 batters. The two Titans who reached base – one via a walk and the other after being hit by a pitch – didn’t get beyond first.
Coach Gabe Stewart said Reelfs’ performance is among the best he’s seen by a Los Altos pitcher during his long tenure at the school.
The run that Los Altos scored in the first inning – Colin Homan doubled to drive in Taylor Musick – proved to be all the offensive support Reelfs needed. Ryan Baum extended the lead by driving in runs in the fourth and fifth frames; Zach Espiritu also recorded an RBI in the fourth.
The next day, Los Altos tied Half Moon Bay 4-all; the game was called after eight innings due to darkness. Ryan Buchner had two hits for the Eagles.
Spartans stymie SHP
Mountain View opened its season with a 7-2 win at Sacred Heart Prep Feb. 22.
Eric Wong drove in two runs and Tommy Cruz hit an RBI triple for the Spartans. Joe Perrino earned the win, striking out six.
