Undefeated Oaks head to Western Regional in Sacramento

The Palo Alto Oaks enter the playoffs without a blemish on their record.

The semipro baseball team, run by Los Altos High graduate Steve Espinoza, completed a perfect regular season Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of rival Fontanetti’s.

The 16-0 Oaks advance to the Stan Musial Western Regional Tournament, scheduled Friday through Sunday in Sacramento.

Palo Alto didn’t allow a run a Sunday, topping Fontanetti’s 6-0 and 12-0. Dominic Hernandez won the first game, surrendering just three hits over seven innings. Gilbert Guerra pitched the final two frames.

Trevor Demerritt and Travis Conroy combined to produce five of the Oaks’ nine hits.

Brandt Norlander pitched all five innings of the second game, shortened by the mercy rule. He struck out six batters and allowed only two hits.

Demerritt again led the offense, notching three hits and two RBIs.
