Egan’s Mwinso Denkabe earned a spot on a soccer team touring Spain this week.

Although it took nearly three months to find out if he made US Club Soccer’s id² National Selection Team, Mwinso Denkabe said it was well worth the wait. The payoff, after all, is a trip to Spain this week.

Motivated by last year’s loss in the Central Coast Section Open Division final, the Mountain View High girls soccer team beat Mitty 3-1 in Friday’s title game at Santa Clara University.

“We lost a tough one last year to Woodside and to come back versus Mitty – (which is) a powerhouse – I think we’ve really shown we’re the best team this year,” coach Ivan Bandov said. “I’m just so happy for the girls. They deserved this night.”

Los Altos High’s Hannah Wendelken scored all three goals in last week’s win over Gunn. It was her second hat trick of the season.

The Los Altos High girls not only avenged an earlier loss to the soccer team that beat them the first time around in league, but they also took sole ownership of first place with last week’s 3-0 win over Gunn.

The host Eagles scored twice in the first half and added an insurance goal midway through the second half of the Feb. 14 game. Los Altos’ dominant defense did the rest, turning away the Titans time after time.
