He scored on several acrobatic drives to the basket, drained a fall-away 3-pointer and converted an inbounds alley-oop, yet the biggest play St. Francis High’s Logan Johnson made Friday against St. Ignatius didn’t involve him taking a shot.

With the Lancers leading by two points with 1:44 to play, the senior drove the lane – drawing the defense’s attention – and promptly zipped a pass to an open Oscar Pedraza in the left corner. The junior buried the 3-pointer and St. Francis never looked back, winning 63-56 at home.

Mountain View High’s gym was rocking in anticipation of last week’s boys basketball game between the Spartans and rival Los Altos High – and the action lived up to the hype.

Experienced Panthers shooting for CCS title

Led by a new head coach and a slew of seniors, the Pinewood School boys basketball team is off to a fast start. The Panthers, slated to begin league play tonight, finished their preseason with a 6-3 record.

“It’s going well right now,” senior captain Jaeden Bailey said. “I mean, it’s only preseason, but we’ve been playing really well.”
