Los Altos grad Bakos among 200 invited to career in sports forum

Although Ally Bakos recently completed her senior season of water polo at George Washington University, she isn’t necessarily done with sports.

The Los Altos native wants to pursue a career in athletics – outside the pool – and being invited to the recent NCAA Career in Sports Forum exposed her to an array of opportunities in the field.

LA-based club water polo team dominates WinterFest tourney

The under-18 boys team from Los Altos-based NorCal Aquatics swam circles around the competition at last month’s WinterFest Water Polo Tournament in Orange County.

The squad dominated its division – posting a 5-0 record – and routed Redondo Beach 17-6 in the championship game. NorCal, which trains at Los Altos High, outscored its opponents 73-27 over the three-day event.

Girls water polo players from local schools earn All-CCS Div. I honors

In a vote of girls water polo coaches, players from Los Altos, Mountain View and St. Francis highs recently earned All-Central Coast Section Division I honors.

St. Francis’ Isabella Mandema was named Co-Player of the Year. Mountain View’s Gabi Matafora Adams, St. Francis’ Julia Hartmann and Elizabeth DeLong, and Los Altos’ Julia Santos were selected for the First Team.

Fast start propels LA girls past Paly

When you lose, learn from it. That’s the message Los Altos High girls water polo coach Katie Buzzetta has conveyed to her team all season.

Based on last week’s results, the players are heeding her advice.
