Spartans stun Santa Clara; Lancers blast Bellarmine

The Mountain View High football team climbed to the top of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division by beating host Santa Clara 17-10 Friday night.

The Spartans, tied with the Bruins at halftime, outscored them 10-0 in the third quarter and allowed just a field goal in the fourth.

Halfback Jacob Cortinas scored both Mountain View touchdowns – on a run and a catch – and led the team in rushing (162) and receiving (85) yards.

At 4-1 in league, the Spartans are ahead of Santa Clara (3-1) and Saratoga (3-1). Mountain View (5-4 overall) has a bye this week and hosts Monta Vista 7 p.m. Nov. 2.

St. Francis 28, Bellarmine 0

St. Francis remained perfect in the West Catholic Athletic League (5-0) by routing the rival Bells Friday in San Jose. Halfback Thomas Whitenight scored twice for the Lancers (7-1 overall).
