St. Francis High is the lone local football team to make the postseason, landing the third seed in the Central Coast Section Open Division II playoffs.
The Lancers (7-3) are set to host No. 6 Wilcox (7-3) in the quarterfinals 7 p.m. Friday. The winner takes on No. 2 Aragon (9-1) or No. 7 Westmont (7-3) the following weekend in the semifinals.
St. Francis concluded the regular season with a 31-21 loss to Serra Friday to take third in the West Catholic Athletic League at 5-2.
The host Lancers rallied from a 21-0 deficit to tie the game early in the fourth quarter on Darrell Page’s 8-yard touchdown run and Reed Vettel’s two-point pass to Joshua Pakola. The Padres answered with a field goal and tacked on a late touchdown to secure the win and the outright league title with a 7-0 record (8-2 overall).
Spartans win finale
Mountain View capped its season by routing Gunn 66-22 Thursday to finish third in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division at 4-2.
The Spartans (5-5 overall) rushed for 272 yards and five touchdowns in the road win. Fullback Michael Capote rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns.
Loss ensures Eagles’ fate
Los Altos fell 41-12 to visiting Saratoga Thursday, ensuring the Eagles’ demotion to the SCVAL El Camino Division next year. Both teams entered the league finale tied for last place in the SCVAL De Anza Division.
Down only 7-6 after the first quarter, Los Altos was outscored 21-0 in the second by the Falcons, who picked up their first win.
The Eagles finished the year 0-6 in league and 2-8 overall.
