Eagles go pro: Football team to open league at Levi's

Although it’s technically a home game, the Los Altos High football team will travel 9 miles to play its Sept. 23 league opener.

Not that the Eagles are complaining – the game will be at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Los Altos is slated to play Wilcox at 3:30 p.m., the first game of a doubleheader capped by St. Mary’s (Stockton) vs. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) at 7 p.m.

“We’re fortunate to have the support of USA Football and the 49ers,” Eagles head coach Trevor Pruitt said of being selected to play at the home of the San Francisco 49ers. “We are very excited about it.”

This marks the fourth year of the Levi’s Stadium High School Football Series, formerly known as Friday Night Lights, and the first time a team from Los Altos or Mountain View has participated.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the kids,” Los Altos athletic director Michelle Bokamper Noeth said.

The contest kicks off the Eagles’ slate of Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division games. Opponent Wilcox is from Santa Clara; its campus is less than 4 miles from Levi’s.

Noeth encourages those who plan to attend the game to purchase their tickets online through Ticketmaster and enter promo code “LOSALTOS” at checkout – that’s the only way the school will receive revenue from the event (50 percent of the sales). Otherwise, the profits will go to Levi’s Stadium to help cover the cost of staffing, she added. Tickets are $10.
