Pastor's Perspective: Experiencing the joy and love of deep generosity

The haunting line that continues to echo in my mind from teen climate activist Greta Thunberg’s provocative speech to the United Nations is, “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”

I can’t help but wonder how those thunderous words of woe matter here where we live, work, live lives of faith and of good conscience, recreate, celebrate life and retire.

LAUMC hosts annual Harvest Craft Faire

Los Altos United Methodist Church has scheduled its 40th annual Harvest Craft Faire 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, 655 Magdalena Ave.

The event will feature a large selection of handcrafted items made by more than 40 artisans, from glass and stuffed pumpkins to pilgrims, Santas, wooden bowls, cutting boards and kitchen items.

Living Harmony Concert Series continues at Christ Episcopal Church

Harpists with the Silicon Valley Chapter of the American Harp Society are scheduled to perform in the “Silicon Valley Harp Extravaganza 2019” Nov. 23 as part of Christ Episcopal Church’s Living Harmony Concert Series. The group plans to feature more than 20 harps onstage.

Concerts will feature musicians from England, Spain and Scotland performing alongside local artists, including Spanish Brass, classical guitarist Paul Galbraith, vocal ensemble Convivium and a holiday program by harpists from the American Harp Society Nov. 23.

My spiritual healing journey

This month, I celebrate my “Jesus Birthday,” 35 years of being born again.

I was raised by my parents in the Catholic Church, where I received my spiritual foundation, believing in the Trinity – God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit.

A crèche exhibition is scheduled at the Palo Alto LDS church.

The Palo Alto Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ 32nd annual Christmas crèche exhibition is scheduled for display noon to 9 p.m. Dec. 7-11 at 3865 Middlefield Road.

This year’s event – with the theme “Star of Wonder, Star of Night, Guide Us to Thy Perfect Light” – will feature approximately 250 nativities from 50-plus countries on loan from more than 100 private owners around the Bay Area.
