New Stanford program addresses complexities of Islam

A unique collaboration at Stanford is bringing a renewed focus to one of the world’s most followed but misunderstood religions.

Stanford’s Institute on Islam, a collaboration involving the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies, the Center to Support Excellence in Teaching (CSET) and Stanford Global Studies, held a five-week program in the spring that provided Bay Area teachers innovative strategies to better educate students on Islam, the world’s second-largest religion with 1.8 billion followers.

LAUMC offers caregiver support group

Los Altos United Methodist Church offers a caregiver support group for adult children of aging parents and other caregivers. The group meets 7-8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the chapel, 655 Magdalena Ave.

According to organizers, the group is a safe and confidential place for children with aging parents and other caregivers to talk through challenges, explore creative means for coping with stress and share their feelings, needs and concerns.
