LAUMC offers caregiver support group

Los Altos United Methodist Church offers a caregiver support group for adult children of aging parents and other caregivers. The group meets 7-8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month in the chapel, 655 Magdalena Ave.

According to organizers, the group is a safe and confidential place for children with aging parents and other caregivers to talk through challenges, explore creative means for coping with stress and share their feelings, needs and concerns.

Century-old LA church plans Easter celebration

Union Presbyterian Church of Los Altos commemorates Eastertime with a flower-filled Cross of Life. Local residents are encouraged to bring a handful of fresh-cut flowers to the Easter service, scheduled 10 a.m. April 16, to fill the cross.

Union Presbyterian Church of Los Altos has scheduled its 104th Easter celebration 10 a.m. April 16 at 858 University Ave.

The service will be followed at 11 a.m. by an Easter egg hunt for children and a reception and fellowship in the church’s Bailey Hall, featuring home-baked Easter treats. Pastor David Moore encourages those who attend to bring flowers to fill the church’s Cross of Life, a traditional feature of Easter worship at the church.

LA Lutheran hosts gathering for reflection

Los Altos Lutheran Church has scheduled “A Light in the Darkness: Cultivating Compassion & Community” 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, 460 S. El Monte Ave.

Amid the change and uncertainty of current times, the church will host the gathering for reflection, conversation and healing. Church representatives said local residents are invited to “demonstrate your commitment to living a life of love, unity and inclusiveness.”

Spiritual Perspective: Embracing diversity may be difficult, but it could unite the world

Our latest struggles as a nation with human diversity remind me of one of my math classes. One would make an initial assumption and then continue with the proof. If the result was a contradiction, one would conclude that the original assumption must have been false.

Any assumption that leads to the marginalization or objectification of a group of people based on religion, race, gender, nationality or class requires re-examination, as it contradicts God’s teachings.
