LAUMC performs with Viva la Musica

Musicians from Los Altos United Methodist Church and the Viva la Musica choir and chamber orchestra are scheduled to perform a “Baltic Tour Farewell Concert” 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the church, 655 Magdalena Ave.

The musicians will join forces under the baton of Shulamit Hoffmann prior to departing for a two-week performance tour that includes concerts in Vilnius, Lithuania; Riga, Latvia; Tallinn, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; and Helsinki, Finland.

Los Altos United Methodist Church has scheduled its fifth annual Compassion Week Oct. 2-8, offering local residents the opportunity to join in a week of volunteer community service.

The Compassion Week planning team has organized more than 150 projects addressing a range of local needs, from cleaning up local creeks and parks to cooking and serving meals to veterans and the homeless, sewing dresses for children in Africa and repairing bicycles for dayworkers and their families.

Parishioners at St. William Catholic Church in Los Altos have scheduled their annual rummage sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church, 611 S. El Monte Road.

Items for sale range from electronics items to jewelry, clothing and toys.

Church hosts 36th Mediterranean Food and Cultural Festival Sept. 9 and 10

The Antiochian Orthodox Church of the Redeemer has scheduled its 36th annual Mediterranean Food and Cultural Festival noon to 10 p.m. Sept. 9 and noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 10 on the church grounds, 380 Magdalena Ave., Los Altos Hills.

The festival is a fundraiser that will feature Middle Eastern cuisine, including shawarma, kibbe and tabouli; international music and dance performances; games; arts and crafts; raffles; children’s activities; and family entertainment.

I'm Just Saying ... : Seasons and mysteries – knowing God in a personal way

I love it when the seasons change – outdoors. But I am not so fond of the seasons of my life changing.

I don’t think that the average young person recognizes that he or she is in the spring or summer of his or her life. That usually happens after the fact.
