LAUMC performs with Viva la Musica

Musicians from Los Altos United Methodist Church and the Viva la Musica choir and chamber orchestra are scheduled to perform a “Baltic Tour Farewell Concert” 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the church, 655 Magdalena Ave.

The musicians will join forces under the baton of Shulamit Hoffmann prior to departing for a two-week performance tour that includes concerts in Vilnius, Lithuania; Riga, Latvia; Tallinn, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; and Helsinki, Finland.

Soloists will include pianist Anna Khaydarova, violinist Xiaoli Chen, guitarist Ed Daranciang, sopranos Lauren Haber and Jackie Goldgorin and contralto Danni Carter.

The program will feature “Jubilate Deo” by Dan Forrest, “Dark Night of the Soul” by Ola Gjeilo, “Exsultate Jubilate” by Angela Kraft Cross and “Universal Rhythm” by René Ochoa.

Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.

Foothills Congregational joins in hunger walk

Members of Foothills Congregational Church in Los Altos are scheduled to participate in the CROP Hunger Walk 1 p.m. Oct. 8 at Nealon Park, 800 Middle Ave., Menlo Park.

The walk is a fundraiser for Church World Service, a nonprofit group that feeds the hungry and provides clean water.
