Los Altos police host children’s coat drive

The Los Altos Police Department is sponsoring a winter coat drive benefiting Los Altos elementary schools.

The police seek new (with tags) winter coats in children’s sizes extra small to extra large.

Donations can be dropped off at the Los Altos Police Department, 1 N. San Antonio Road, or Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave., through Dec. 18. The department also will be accepting donations 6-8 p.m. Dec. 6 during the downtown tree-lighting ceremony. There will be a police car on display, with the trunk open to receive donations.

Living Classroom seeks volunteers

Living Classroom is recruiting volunteers and has scheduled three winter docent trainings.

Living Classroom is a group of trained volunteers who teach hands-on garden-based lessons to elementary school students in the Los Altos School District.

Volunteers do not need prior gardening or teaching experience and don’t need to live in Los Altos or have a child in the school district.

The trainings are scheduled 9 a.m. to noon Monday and Dec. 9 and 16 at the Los Altos School District iLearn Studio, 201 Covington Road. Apprentice-style training is available for those who can’t make the Monday meetings.

Volunteers commit to six hours of work per month, split across three lessons.
