LA Police Department runs school supply drive

The Los Altos Police Department is slated to host its inaugural “Pack the Patrol Car” event Aug. 14 on the Downtown Green, located on Third Street between Main and State streets in Los Altos.

As the school year approaches, the department will collect new school supplies for low-income kindergarten through eighth-grade students. The Los Altos School District will identify students in need and take the lead in distributing donated supplies.

Supplies being sought include backpacks, pencils, pens, highlighters, folders, notebooks, glue, markers, crayons, erasers, notebook paper and scissors.

Donations also may be dropped off Saturday through Aug. 17 in the police department’s main lobby, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

Retirement party honors LAHS choral director

Former students are organizing a retirement party for Mark Shaull, who led choral music at Los Altos High School for 35 years before stepping down this year.

The party is scheduled 5-8 p.m. Saturday at David’s Restaurant, 5151 Stars and Stripes Drive, Santa Clara. The event will include a buffet dinner, toasts and singing.

Tickets are $65 for those over age 13. Entry for children 2-13 is $33. Ticket proceeds will go toward the cost of the event, as well as a planned gift – commissioning a new choral composition in Shaull’s honor.

Additional donations are also being sought to cover the full cost of the event and gift. Any remaining money will be donated to the high school’s music department.
